NEMA’s Community Outreach Unit acts as a conduit between the agency itself and our state and federal partners, local emergency managers, communities, stakeholders and families across Nebraska – working alongside and on behalf of them all to provide information, resources, capacity, and coordination – before, during and after disaster events. The Community Outreach Unit is the home of Nebraska’s long-term disaster recovery efforts, as well as primary points of contact for NEMA’s Public Information Office (PIO), the State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), FEMA Individual Assistance, Nebraska Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) and Citizen Corps. The unit’s goal is to better connect our local affiliates and communities with other partners in their area and beyond, with state agencies and nonprofit organizations, as well as with the assets, tools, trainings and forms of assistance that will help them better serve our fellow Nebraskans in all areas, times of year and phases of disaster.
