PUBLIC INFORMATION
The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Public Information Officer (PIO) serves as the agency’s primary media contact and coordinates public information before, during, and after emergencies.
The PIO develops news releases, public information materials, and The Beacon, NEMA’s online newsletter. The PIO also coordinates public information during exercises, drills, and emergencies involving Nebraska’s nuclear power facilities.
When an incident requires a coordinated response across multiple agencies or jurisdictions, the PIO leads the state’s Joint Information Center (JIC). The JIC brings public information professionals together to provide timely, accurate, and consistent information through a coordinated source, using the National Incident Management System.
